7G Fusion Takes 1st in Chico's Kwame Nunn Memorial
The Fusion 7th Grade team won all 3 of its games at the Kwame Nunn Memorial Tournament in Chico this weekend and took First Place in their bracket. To get to the championship game, the Fusion girls survived a tough opening game on Satrday against a skilled team from Medford, Oregon, winning 29-27 on a late basket. The Fusion team cruised in their second game, winning by 24 to set them up in the championship game Sunday, a “winner take all” matchup against the home town Chico Blue Devils. The Fusion girls struggled to score in the Sunday afternoon title game, grinding their way to a 14-8 halftime lead. The second half was even tougher as both teams contested every inch on the court, but the Fusion girls played stifling defense all game and held on for the 18-17 victory.
All 12 Fusion 7G team members made the trip to Chico and everyone played meaningful minutes in every game this weekend, making the tournament win a true team effort. Coach Emily Anderson and Coach Chris Schreur are impressed with the development of the team and the camaraderie that the girls show for each other, both on and off the court.
